Viva La Stout Chocolate Raspberry Cookie Stout by Sawdust City Brewing Company

Welcome to Beers and Such, a shiny blog featuring craft beer reviews, and the very occasional review of other things that catch my ADHD. Come along and see what's out there in the world of craft beers.

Today we are taking a look at Viva La Stout Chocolate Raspberry Cookie Stout by Sawdust City Brewing Company in Gravenhurst, Ontario. I am seeing a lot of flavoured stouts on the market lately and so far they've all been pretty damn tasty. There may be some purists out there that might take this new trend as blasphemous, but that's purists for you.

I love black beers and this is exactly that. It's 5.9% so there's a kick to this cookie, and for all the dessert ingredients in the really long name, it doesn't smell like a chocolatey stout. That's a good smell to this guy's nose.

And now the part I've been waiting for since I picked this can up. Let's taste this.

Dear lord, that's a good beer. It's sweet, and the raspberry flavour is clear as day, then the chocolate comes in behind it, and it finishes like a stout. What a ride. There's a definite aftertaste that I'm not sure exactly how to describe, but it's a good thing.

The can calls this beer a dessert beer. I definitely see how that makes sense. It's almost a desert itself. It's a treat, for sure. I really like this one. It looks great in the glass, it tastes great, and it finishes really nice to boot. I don't think I could sit and pound these beers until I black out because it's so sweet, but also because I don't drink until I black out.

That has happened from over consumption of vodka in my youth. Thankfully only on 2 occasions. One occasion was a new year's eve party where I woke up the next day dirty and sore from repeatedly falling down. The other occasion involved a car ride in my underroos I still have absolutely no memory of. Not one second of it.

Anyway, back to the task at hand. This beer is great and I highly recommend it.

I also recommend drinking this fine stout in a fine stout glass. In fact, you could invite some of your friends over and drink a few of these out of a set of stout glasses.

My rating: 9/10. It's good and you'll like it.

My lovely wife is my second sipper. She likes stouts more than IPA's, but this one didn't jive with her for some reason.

My wife's rating: 3.5/10
