Today I bring to you Saturday Night Cream Ale by Stack Brewing Corp in Sudbury, Ontario. The white can is eye catching, and I generally like cream ales, so I'm looking forward to this one. In the glass, this beer looks like your average commercial beer. If it was on a table with a bunch of other big name beers, I think the average guy would be hard pressed to identify it.
It's light, it's 5.3%, and it has what I would call a medium carbonation. It has a little bit of head on it, but nothing crazy.
Now for the important part;
Hmmm. The only word I can think of is disappointing. I feel like cream ales should be creamy, and this isn't. It falls pretty flat overall. There's no hop flavour, there's not a lot of flavour at all actually.
It's not my favourite.
My rating: 6/10
To be clear, this isn't a bad beer, it just doesn't stand out in anyway. A guy can sit around and pound them back like any big name beer and be perfectly happy. I was just hoping for more.
My wife is my second sipper, and she made the face she makes when she tries something she doesn't like very much.
My wife's rating: 4/10
