After a few days off, I have returned to bring you a review of Octopus Wants to Fight IPA by Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto, Ontario. It's a bright, unfiltered brew packing a 6.2% alcohol volume. It smells hoppy, as you would expect from an IPA, and I have high hopes for this one. Great Lakes Brewery has made an appearance on this blog before, so I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
Let's find out, shall we?
It's hoppy as all get out. It starts out with a smack in the taste buds with a sock full of hops, and then goes immediately to a bitterness that is a bit much at first. If I was to pass judgement in one sip, I would say I'm not a huge fan.
That wouldn't be wise or fair of me. After a few more sips, I have to say this is a good beer. The hops are lively and smooth, and the bitterness that was off putting in that first sip balances beautifully after a sip or two. There's not much of an after taste to speak of, and who really wants a lingering taste after the beer is on its way to becoming pee anyway?
I would say this beer is best served in a...wait for it...IPA glass! Shocking, I know, but I do believe in the right glassware for the beer on tap.
My rating: 8/10
My wife is my second sipper, and as you may know by now if you've been following along at home she does not like hoppy beers.
My wife's rating: 5/10
